Cosmetic Acupuncture

We Believe Healthy Skin Starts With A Healthy Body

Common cosmetic concerns such as fine lines and dark circles can be linked to a number of different ailments or imbalances. Imperfection in a specific area of the face can be an indicator of an internal imbalance that needs to be corrected before you see a sustained improvement in your skin. Our licensed acupuncturists are uniquely qualified to recognize the difference between purely cosmetic issues and those that should be addressed with a more holistic approach. The combination of microneedling, acupuncture and herbal medicine can provide excellent, sustainable results.

Effective Skin Rejuvenation with Microneedling and Cosmetic Acupuncture

Anatomy and Alchemy offers a multi-level approach to skin care that also addresses the internal causes of skin issues. You’ll get natural looking results without the side effect of a “frozen face” look that can be created with products like Botox. Both microneedling and cosmetic acupuncture can help improve the look of your skin without any downtime or harsh chemicals. The best option for you will depend on your unique needs and goals. Speak with our healthcare specialist to determine which one is best for you. In general, both treatments are safe and have minimal risks when performed by a certified specialist.

Healthy Skin Starts With A Supportive Routine

When considering taking your skin to the next level with advanced treatments such as microneedling and/or chemical peels, the foundation of your daily routine is crucial not only to your results but the overall health and integrity of your skin. One of the major benefits to having a consistent skincare routine is keeping your skin healthy and glowing. If your skin is not balanced it can start to look dull and sallow, and may even feel tight, dry, or itchy. In your daily routine, you have the opportunity to care for your skin by deeply cleansing, exfoliating away dead skin cells, and applying moisturizer and sunscreen to maintain a healthy moisture barrier and protect your skin from UV damage. These steps are vital to supporting your skin health and integrity while undergoing powerful treatments that yield amazing results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare for the treatment?

We ask our patients to come to the appointment with no makeup and a clean dry skin. A numbing cream will be applied for 20 minutes (numbing cream is not used during cosmetic acupuncture) before the procedure. If you are using any intensive topicals, we ask that you discontinue use at least 48 hours before your treatment.

What should I do after the treatment?
  • Stay out of prolonged direct sunlight as much as possible in the first two weeks after the procedure.
  • Avoid swimming pools, saunas, and situations where you might sweat heavily, including intense workouts at the gym
  • Wash your hands before you touch your face.
  • Avoid exfoliants, retinols, and vitamin C for the first week after the treatment
Can I wear makeup right after my appointment?

Patients typically can resume their normal makeup regimen 2-3 days following their treatment depending on the area and type of treatment performed.

How does microneedling work?

Immediately following an injury, our skin begins the process of dissolving tissue damage and replacing it with new cells. Microneedling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process. When the tiny needle enters the skin’s surface layer, it  automatically triggers new collagen synthesis without causing scar tissue formation. The micro channels created by the needles allow the product to penetrate deeper into the skin, resulting in better product efficacy. Additionally, cosmetic acupuncture needles are inserted into the muscle layer to create tone or relax tight muscles.

How is cosmetic acupuncture different?

Cosmetic acupuncture is more effective at lifting, firming, and tightening facial muscles for a more youthful look. It will also address internal issues that negatively impact the health of your skin. Cosmetic acupuncture can be performed weekly whereas microneedling is performed once a month.  Both, microneedling and cosmetic acupuncture, will increase collagen and elastin resulting in diminished fine lines and wrinkles.

What can be treated?

Microneedling treats fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, large pores, stretch marks and many other skin texture conditions. It can be used on all skin types and parts of the body including the face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

How many treatments are recommended?

The number of treatments required will be determined by your skincare professional based upon your individual treatment goals and the health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of 5 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, 6-8 sessions at 4-6 week intervals are usually recommended. We will work with you to develop a maintenance plan to help maintain the rejuvenating effects.

What is the downtime and what side effects should I expect?

Similar to mild sunburn, redness, swelling and tenderness may follow the procedure, but you can expect no significant downtime with microneedling. After just one day, you  may return to normal activities. If desired, you should be able to conceal most of the signs of treatment with makeup. Within days, there will be no evidence that any treatment was performed at all.

Is there anyone who should not use microneedling or cosmetic acupuncture?

Microneedling should not be used in patients with a history of keloid scars, scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases, cardiac abnormalities, hemorrhagic disorders, hemostatic dysfunction or an active bacterial or fungal infection. Anyone who has had botox within 4 weeks. We do not recommend either modality during pregnancy.

How long will the results last?

Results are research proven to last 3 to 5 years.
